TAFE Coffs Harbour Optimisation
The TAFE Coffs Harbour Optimisation project by SHAC supports TAFE NSW to consolidate and improve the CHEC education campus. Improved efficiencies and collegiate opportunities will be possible through the relocation of courses from the older TAFE Glenreagh Street Campus to the Coffs Harbour Education Campus (CHEC). This project included comprehensive pragmatic masterplanning, concept development and construction documentation, and involved an in-depth analysis of the site, its operations, campus utilisation audit and stakeholder needs.

Key elements of the project include the refurbishment of three storey Block O for staff facilities, along with improved indoor & outdoor shared spaces and landscaping. Additionally, a new Block V, consists of two perpendicular wings that frame a landscaped courtyard, housing Creative Design Industries (CDI) and the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP).

Stakeholder consultation has been pivotal in shaping the spatial, aesthetic, technical, and pedagogical requirements, ensuring alignment with TAFE standards and the needs of the community.

Consultation with members of the Gumbaynggirr peoples was integral to the project, greatly enriching the understanding of the site's history, local stories, landmarks, and features. This process of engagement involved collaboration at all stages of design, ensuring that Indigenous perspectives were incorporated meaningfully. The integration of significant First Nation motifs, stories, colours, and features were prioritised, creating a space that honours and reflects the cultural heritage of the Gumbaynggirr people.

SHAC are proud to work alongside TAFE NSW, Principal Project Management, a dedicated team of clever consultants and A W Edwards Builders to deliver this important tertiary education outcome for students of the North Coast NSW.
